Bengaluru-based battery tech startup Volt14 has raised $1.87 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Blume Ventures, with participation from Beyond Next Ventures, Spectrum Impact, Supermorpheus, and returning investor Cocoon Capital.
The fresh infusion brings Volt14’s total funding to $4.02 million, strengthening its ambition to commercialize next-generation silicon-based anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
What does Volt14 do?
Founded in 2019 by materials scientist and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree Animesh Kumar Jha, Volt14 has developed a proprietary silicon-rich anode platform designed to significantly enhance battery energy density—an advancement critical for improving the range of electric vehicles and extending the lifespan of consumer electronics.
The startup plans to use the raised capital to scale the manufacturing of its anode materials and expand its core team.
"Electrification is an irreversible trend," said Jha. "We are excited to help our partners unlock tangible product advantages through superior battery performance. Volt14’s technology delivers a substantial boost to energy density, can leverage installed cell production capacity, and scales efficiently, positioning us strongly for the future."
Industry's growth potential
The global lithium-ion battery market is projected to exceed $300 billion by 2034, driven by the explosive growth of electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems. According to the International Energy Agency, nearly one in five cars sold globally in 2023 was electric, and the EV fleet is expected to expand twelvefold by 2035.
Arpit Agarwal, Partner, Blume Ventures, added, "We are excited to lead this investment round in Volt14, a company that is fundamentally reimagining the future of battery technology. Their breakthrough silicon anode innovation represents a step-change in energy storage capabilities that could push the boundaries of what's possible with Lithium-ion batteries. Under the very capable leadership of Animesh and Puneet, whose technical expertise and vision are world-class, we have full confidence in Volt14's ability to scale this company globally."
"Volt14 and the founders' disruptive vision for a sustainable world by innovating in the battery chemistry space perfectly resonates with our mission to back the pioneers building a happy planet," said Jay Krishnan, Partner, Beyond Next Ventures.
