BYTES, a Bengaluru-based startup focused on AI-powered Advanced Driver Assistance Systems for two-wheelers, has secured a Rs 20 lakh non-dilutive grant from Nikhil Kamath’s WTFund as part of its second cohort for 2024.

The funding will help BYTES accelerate its efforts to enhance road safety through advanced AI and computer vision.

Emerging from stealth mode

Launched in August 2024 by entrepreneurs Prakhar Agrawal and Aayush Kumar, BYTES began as a stealth project aimed at reducing two-wheeler accidents. The startup's technology uses real-time alerts and can partially control a vehicle in critical moments to help riders avoid collisions.

It will use the fresh funds to roll out pilot programs with leading two-wheeler original equipment manufacturers, integrating its AI safety system into real-world applications.

AI-driven safety for two-wheelers

BYTES’ proprietary software relies on computer vision and machine learning to detect potential dangers, issuing timely alerts to riders.

In emergency situations, it can even take limited control of the vehicle to prevent crashes. The company says it wants to create a future where no two-wheeler accident results in a preventable loss of life.

According to global statistics, over 50 million road accidents occur every year, with two-wheelers accounting for 60% of them. Human error causes about 90% of these incidents, highlighting the urgent need for better safety solutions.

Backed by leading programs

The startup is already supported by several organizations, including IIMB’s NSRCEL, NVIDIA’s Inception Program, Microsoft for Startups and the Wadhwani Foundation.

This backing adds credibility to BYTES’ efforts to make roads safer for two-wheeler riders. By leveraging these partnerships, the company aims to strengthen its technology and make it available to more manufacturers and customers around the world.

"At BYTES, our mission is to create a future where no two-wheeler accident results in a preventable loss of life," said Prakhar Agrawal, Co-founder and CEO. "AI and vision-based intelligence will ensure safety is an integral part of riding."

Support from WTFund

WTFund offers grants of up to Rs 20 lakh and provides mentorship and strategic partnerships to help promising startups scale their impact.

With BYTES now part of its second cohort, WTFund’s support will play a crucial role in speeding up the deployment of the AI safety system.

Founder Nikhil Kamath’s involvement underscores the growing interest in using cutting-edge technology to address real-world challenges like road safety.

With its new funding, BYTES intends to launch pilot programs that demonstrate how its AI system can reduce accidents and save lives. The company plans to work closely with two-wheeler manufacturers to refine its technology and bring it to market on a larger scale.
