BQP, a dual-use quantum-accelerated simulation software startup, has raised about $5 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round to scale its unified digital twin platform, BQPhy, across mission-critical industries such as aerospace, defense and semiconductors.
The latest round, led by Monta Vista Capital, brings the total funding raised by the startup to $6.6 million. Other participants include New York Ventures (Empire State Development’s venture arm), Arc Ventures, Armory Square Ventures, Emergent Ventures, and Alumni Ventures, along with a network of angel investors and existing backers such as Paradigm Shift Capital and the Griffiss Institute.
The investment arrives on the heels of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory’s Aerospace Systems Directorate (AFRL/RQ), under which BQP is helping enhance national defense capabilities by applying quantum-powered modeling and simulation.
“Our quantum-inspired solvers are setting a new benchmark in simulation technology,” said Abhishek Chopra, BQP’s founder and CEO. “The traction we're experiencing from AFRL/RQ and our industry partners validates the platform’s immediate return on investment.”
Founded in 2020 by Chopra, Jash Minocha, and Rut Lineswala, BQP (short for BosonQ Psi) aims to modernize the $22 billion global simulation industry with quantum-ready infrastructure. Its flagship product, BQPhy, is designed to operate seamlessly across hybrid computing environments, including classical CPUs, GPUs, and emerging quantum processors.
Although today’s deployments run on classical architectures, BQPhy leverages quantum-inspired probabilistic algorithms that, according to the company, already deliver 10X performance improvements over traditional solvers. Looking ahead, BQP said its in-development quantum-native solvers could offer up to 1000X gains once quantum computing hardware becomes commercially viable.
BQP’s customer and partner roster includes some of the largest names in aerospace and defense, including a Tier-I aerospace manufacturer, three major A&D firms, ABB, the Indian Ministry of Heavy Industries, and government bodies such as the Department of Defense and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
The startup is also an active participant in the global quantum ecosystem, collaborating with IBM, Intel, Classiq, Strangeworks, and NORDTECH Hub members to ensure cross-compatibility with emerging quantum standards and platforms.
Headquartered in Syracuse, with a technology hub in Bengaluru, India, BQP plans to use the new capital to deepen its R&D capabilities, expand commercial deployment, and increase its presence at global forums.
