Indian deeptech startup SimYog Technologies has raised Rs 20 crore (approximately $2.4 million) in a pre-Series A funding round co-led by Mela Ventures and 1Crowd, with participation from existing backer IdeaSpring.

The Bengaluru-based startup, incubated at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), plans to use this funding for product development and enhance its go-to-market strategy.

Providing critical design for automotive electronics

Founded in 2017 by Dipanjan Gope, Anant Devi, and Arkaprovo Das, SimYog concentrates on providing critical design and sign-off tools for automotive electronics.

The startup said that its unique approach integrates data analytics and machine learning to allow hardware developers to test electronic components for electromagnetic interference (EMI) at the design stage itself.

The challenge of EMI/EMC

In the rapidly evolving tech world, EMI/EMC (Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing is a vital stage in electronic device manufacturing

SimYog said that its platform significantly enhances the chances of passing certification tests on the first try, addressing a common issue where approximately 50% of electronic devices fail EMI/EMC certification initially. The failure often leads to costly delays, product recalls, and financial impacts, costing companies billions annually, the startup said.

RK Shenoy, CTO Bosch Global Software Technologies, said, “SimYog’s EMI/EMC simulation at the design stage significantly reduces the risk of delays & higher verification cost during the certification stage. One can benefit from sample production cost savings, faster time-to-market, and improved product performance. SimYog plays a significant part in our product success, and we are excited about the promising roadmap.”

How well SimYog is performing financially?

SimYog claims that it witnessed a 77% increase in operating revenue from FY21 to FY22. Despite this growth, the startup maintains stable losses, indicating a strong focus on sustainable expansion.

With this round of funding, It aims to broaden its global presence, particularly across semiconductor manufacturers, OEMs, and subsystem suppliers.

N S Parthasarathy, Managing Partner, Mela Ventures, said “With higher expectations from consumers, product companies are packing more technology in constrained spaces, leading to potential challenges in signal interferences. EMI/EMC simulation tool in the early stages of the design cycle is crucial need. SimYog has cracked the code on that front, and we are delighted to see the rapid progress they are making in this space."
