Chennai-based Proklean Technologies has raised $4 million in strategic funding from Raintree Family Office, a venture capital firm supporting environmentally friendly startups.
The startup plans to utilize the funds to strengthen its research and development (R&D) division and expand its workforce through hiring initiatives. It also plans to focus on scaling its presence in existing markets and exploring new markets.
Founded in 2012 by Sivaram Pillai and Bala Chandrashekar, Proklean said it specializes in developing innovative products to tackle pollution and the depletion of renewable resources. Proklean Technologies utilizes probiotic microorganisms technology to create eco-friendly solutions, eliminating the need for chemical-based surfactants.
Initially focusing on wastewater treatment plants, Proklean Technologies received angel funding of Rs 3.5 crore in 2012 and an additional round of funding worth Rs 5 crore in 2015. However, the company faced a setback when devastating floods hit the region, forcing them to temporarily suspend operations for six months.
Proklean Technologies has since expanded its product offerings. Around three years ago, they began catering to the paper industry's processing needs, and a year and a half ago, they introduced household cleaning products. These items can be purchased online or exclusively in Chennai offline stores.
