KIBI Sports, a sports startup founded by former national-level athlete Sagar Rai, has secured $100,000 in a fresh funding round led by prominent angel investors, including Saurabh Aggarwal, Arpit Bhardwaj, Vartika Joshi, Suryansh Jain, Pranjal Bansal, Amit Kumar Sahu, Pratibha Rani and Sushila.
Building on a previous investment of $129,000, the latest funds will allow the startup to expand its operations, strengthen its technology and reach a wider audience of athletes, institutions and brands.
Sagar Rai’s firsthand experience in competing across five different sports inspired him to tackle the challenges faced by countless athletes, who often struggle with limited financial support and professional opportunities.
Building a sustainable sports ecosystem
KIBI Sports envisions a future where athletes, brands and institutions can seamlessly collaborate. The platform generates revenue through three main channels: a digital marketplace for sports equipment and merchandise, a sponsorship hub matching athletes and institutions with brands, and a system for sports event registration and booking.
By concentrating on Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and spotlighting underrepresented sports, KIBI Sports seeks to create a balanced playing field for emerging talent. It claims to have more than 20,000 athletes and 800 sports institutions on board, with multiple sponsorship deals in place.
