Adani Group in talks with Uber

Two days after Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi met with Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, where Adani hinted at a potential partnership with the American ride-hailing giant, a new report has emerged.

According to an ET report, Adani Group is reportedly in talks with Uber to introduce its electric passenger cars onto Uber's ride-hailing platform.

The potential partnership expected to bolster the presence of Adani's super app, Adani One, which offers a plethora of services including flight and vacation bookings, airport services, cab bookings, and now it might include Uber as well.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who is on his visit to India, met Gautam Adani and other business executives on February 24.

After the meeting, Adani took to X to share a picture of him with Khosrowshahi and praised Uber's expansion and growth in the Indian market.

"His vision for Uber's expansion in India is truly inspiring, especially his commitment to uplifting Indian drivers and their dignity," Adani wrote.

Notably, he also dropped a hint of collaboration with the American ride-hailing company. "Excited for future collaborations with Dara and his team!" he added.

Adani's entry into electric vehicles

Despite not being a traditional car manufacturer, Adani Group reportedly plans to enter the electric passenger vehicle market as it has ‘huge’ requirements in its ports and airports businesses.

The company's partnership with Uber can expedite its entry into this segment. It plans to purchase, brand, and integrate these electric vehicles into Uber's fleet, the report said.

The impact on India's gig economy

The potential Adani-Uber partnership is poised to significantly impact India's gig economy by accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.

Notably, the potential move aligns with Adani's broader investment strategy, which includes a $100 billion commitment to various industries over the next decade, focusing on energy transition. It also complements Uber's environmental initiatives, such as the introduction of Uber Green in Delhi, aimed at promoting zero-emission mobility.
