Indian billionaire Gautam Adani-led Adani Group and Sundar Pichai-led Google today announced a partnership to advance their collective sustainability goals and add more clean energy to India’s grid.
The partnership will focus on adding more clean energy to India's power grid, with Adani supplying renewable energy to support Google’s cloud operations.
A new solar-wind hybrid project located at Khavda, Gujarat, will be the main source of this clean energy.
This renewable energy facility, touted as the largest in the world, is expected to start its commercial operations in the third quarter of 2025.
A step towards Google’s carbon-free energy goal
As part of this initiative, Google aims to achieve its 24/7 carbon-free energy goal by powering its cloud services in India with clean energy.
The American tech giant has been working towards ensuring that all its cloud operations are powered entirely by renewable energy by 2030.
“Through this partnership, Adani will supply clean energy from a new solar-wind hybrid project located in the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda, Gujarat,” the Adani Group said in a statement.
Adani’s role in India’s clean energy growth
Adani Group, known for its large-scale renewable energy projects, will supply 61.4 megawatt of electricity from a new solar-wind hybrid project located at its 30 gigawatt (GW) Khavda renewable energy park in Gujarat.
The company has a proven track record in delivering wind, solar, hybrid, and energy storage projects and is well-positioned to provide customized renewable energy solutions to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers.
With this collaboration, Adani intends to focus more on helping decarbonize industries, particularly in the merchant and C&I sectors.
