Allen Career Institute, a prominent test-prep brand, said today that it has acquired an AI-led doubts-solving platform, Doubtnut, for reportedly around Rs 83 crore ($10 million).

According to the company's statement, the acquisition aims to improve student learning outcomes by integrating Allen's rich academic resources with Doubtnut's innovative technology.

What will be changed after the acquisition?

Post-acquisition, the Doubtnut team will maintain its focus on developing a world-class doubt resolution experience for students. Doubtnut, known for its multilingual online learning platform, leverages image recognition, natural language processing, and proprietary AI/ML algorithms to provide video-based solutions to student queries.

With a monthly reach of 32 million students across various digital platforms, Doubtnut will now work alongside Allen to broaden the educational experience for students, the company said in a statement.

Focused on enhancing learning experiences

Commenting on the acquisition, Allen CEO Nitin Kukreja said, “Timely and effective resolution of doubts is a core consumer need in education. Doubtnut’s platform will allow us to greatly enhance the learning experience for our students. We are also excited by the prospects of offering Allen’s high quality academic products to a wider audience.”

Allen's strategic moves

The acquisition comes amidst Allen is actively strengthening its position in the education sector, which has been facing a slowdown since the start of the funding winter.

Last year, Allen launched its digital vertical, Allen Digital, and appointed Meta executive Abha Maheshwari as CEO to focus on digital-first products. The institute, founded in 1988, has over 200 classroom centres across 53 cities and offers a variety of educational programs.

Doubtnut, founded in 2017 by IIT-Delhi alumni Tanushree Nagori and Aditya Shankar, has been backed by investors like Peak XV Partners, Omidyar Network India, and Waterbridge Ventures.
