In an era where technology is rapidly transforming our daily lives, Indian billionaire Anand Mahindra has brought something quite extraordinary to the spotlight.
Recently, He took to X to share a fascinating video that's not just about any technological marvel, but about a robot with a very practical and essential purpose: cleaning bathrooms.
This isn't a scene from a sci-fi movie; it's the real deal, a glimpse into a future where robots take on tasks that are often overlooked yet crucial.
Anand Mahindra, a visionary known for his forward-thinking approach, was clearly impressed by this innovation. 'Amazing! As automakers, we are accustomed to using a variety of robots in our factories,' he commented, 'But this application, I admit, is far more important. We need them… NOW.'

As automakers, we are accustomed to using a variety of Robots in our factories.
But this application, I admit, is far more important.
We need them… NOW. 🙂pic.twitter.com/eOVKZpfzgn
Here's what you need to know about Janitor Robot
The Somatic robot, which starts at $1,000 a month, is a janitorial solution, specifically designed for cleaning toilets. It's an autonomous machine that operates for 40 hours a week, capable of navigating through different floors and managing doors.
The robot is equipped with high-powered disinfectants, ensuring thorough cleaning of every corner, much like an advanced version of a Roomba, but for bathrooms.
The robot uses sensors to map out the space it will clean, utilizing video and 3D depth data. The mapping is done through a one-time intensive process at the company's headquarters, where operators virtually guide the robot, setting its cleaning trajectory. This is akin to setting up a space in virtual reality, ensuring the robot is well-trained for its tasks.
Is it going to replace humans?
The Somatic robot isn't intended to replace human janitors but to assist in regular sanitation tasks. When it encounters a mess beyond its capabilities, it sends photographic evidence to human janitors and moves on to clean other areas.
The robot is seen as a beneficial tool for places like airports, casinos, and office spaces, and there's hope that a consumer version might be available in the future.
