E-commerce giant Amazon, which competes with Walmart-owned Flipkart in the Indian market, has launched three new fulfilment centres in Delhi NCR, Guwahati (Assam), and Patna (Bihar).
The company believes these new fulfilment centres will significantly enhance delivery speeds for customers in North and East India.
The launch coincides with the company's upcoming annual festive sale, the Great Indian Festival Sale, which is set to begin on September 27, 2024.

Facilitating sellers to better serve customers
Amazon stated that this investment will enable sellers across these regions to serve customers more efficiently by positioning products closer to them. It is also expected to generate thousands of new job opportunities, giving a significant economic boost to the region.
These jobs will encompass various roles within Amazon’s operations network, offering both full-time and part-time opportunities.
The company also noted that the new centres will collectively support more than 250,000 sellers in Delhi NCR, Bihar, and Assam.

Minimzing energy usage
Amazon emphasized that the fulfillment centers are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and efficient building systems to minimize energy consumption.
Notably, the buildings are designed to achieve net-zero water consumption, with features such as rainwater harvesting tanks, recharge wells to replenish aquifers, and sewage treatment plants.

"We are committed to serve our customers across every pin-code in India and bring them their favourite products fast and reliably, especially during the festive season," said Abhinav Singh, VP Operations, Amazon India.
"As part of this, we have added three new fulfilment centers to our existing pan-India operations network that consists of over 43M cu feet of storage space, sort centers in 19 states, about 2000 delivery stations, Amazon Air, our partnerships with Indian Railways, India Post and much more. These new fulfillment centers will enable sellers in the region to better cater to customer needs while generating thousands of job opportunities, fostering economic growth in the local communities," Singh added.
Generating more than 110,000 seasonal jobs
Recently, Amazon announced that it has created more than 110,000 seasonal job opportunities across its operations network to meet the heightened customer demand during the upcoming festive season.
These opportunities include direct and indirect jobs across India in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai, among others.
In addition, the company recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Railways to expand the use of the railway network for faster movement of customer packages across the country.
