Apna.co, a jobs and professional networking platform, said it received a staggering 23 million job applications in 2023 from women, averaging 44 applications every minute.
This is a notable 40% increase in women with graduate degrees or diplomas using the platform compared to 2022, indicating a growing trend of educated female professionals seeking roles in these sectors.
Tier 2 cities: A hub for female job aspirations
A notable 6.7 million of the 13.8 million women on Apna.co come from tier 2 cities, a 33% increase from the previous year. Cities like Chandigarh, Patna, Lucknow, Ajmer, and Vadodara lead this trend, with women seeking roles in Business Development, HR, Back Office, Teaching, and Customer Support.
Women’s evolving job preferences
In 2023, women demonstrated a balanced approach between seeking flexible work arrangements and career dedication. While half of the job applications from women were for Work-from-home opportunities, a significant 80% applied for full-time roles.
Additionally, 1.8 million women applied for night shift roles, showing a readiness to embrace challenges in the evolving job market.
Higher salaries and managerial roles
There has been a transformative shift in women's career aspirations, with 60% of female job applications on Apna.co being for positions offering salaries above Rs 30,000 and about 4 million applications for roles with salaries exceeding Rs 45,000.
Furthermore, 13.5 million applications were aimed at managerial or higher-level roles, indicating a significant evolution in women's pursuit of corporate success.
Corporate support and economic impact
Leading corporations like Aditya Birla Capital, Bharti AXA, Reliance Nippon, Flipkart, Zomato, Airtel, Jaguar, and Urban Company have been instrumental in this surge, creating supportive environments for women in sectors like BFSI, Service, E-commerce, and Telecom.
