Krutrim, an AI startup founded by Ola chief Bhavish Aggarwal, today announced the Beta launch of its AI chatbot 'कृत्रिम Assistant', which some people are calling similar to Sam Altman-led OpenAI's ChatGPT.
The startup also turned unicorn after it raised $50 million in funding at a valuation of somewhere around $1 billion.
Earlier today, Aggarwal, in a post on X wrote, "This is a start for us and our first-generation product. Lots more to come and this will also improve significantly as we build on this base."

Krutrim's multilingual mastery
What sets apart the Krutrim chatbot is its ability to understand and generate text in over 20 Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, and even Hinglish. Notably, this feature will cater to the diverse linguistic landscape of India.
Aggarwal highlighted the chatbot's deep integration with Indian languages and values, promising a more localized and relevant experience for Indian users compared to global platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini.
How to access Krutrim?
Users who want to try out Krutrim Assistant can do so by visiting the Krutrim website and logging in with an OTP received on their mobile number. Once logged in, users can choose their preferred language and interact with the chatbot, which is designed to provide responses tailored to the user's commands.
The future of Krutrim: beyond chat
Interstingly, Krutrim is not stopping at chatbots. The Bhavish Aggarwa-led AI startup plans to launch Krutrim Pro in the fourth quarter of FY24, a more advanced, multimodal version capable of understanding and processing text, audio, images, and video.
Aggarwal also said that the startup aims to build a comprehensive AI infrastructure in India, including indigenous data centres and AI-optimized silicon chips, to position Krutrim at the forefront of AI innovation.
"We are determined to create state-of-the-art AI models which are a true representation of India, built on a thorough understanding of our cultural context. Regular product upgrades and the addition of new features are on the horizon to enhance the utility of the कृत्रिम assistant, while preserving the unique ethos of India," the company wrote in a blog post.
