In a major boost to international career prospects for local youth, the Bihar government has launched a German language training initiative at select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Bihar.

The program, known as “Project Mandhar,” is part of a collaboration between the Bihar-Jharkhand Fraternity Munich (BJFM) in Germany and the Department of Labour Resources.

Expanding opportunities for youth

The program aims to help young people become proficient in German, opening doors for employment in Germany’s skilled sectors. The training is offered at ITIs in Digha Ghat (Patna), Purnia, Madhaura (Saran), Gaya, Darbhanga, Munger, and Bhagalpur districts.

Labour Resources Minister Santosh Kumar Singh said the three-month course will award certifications at different proficiency levels—A1, A2, B1, and B2—depending on the participant’s performance.

Up to 300 students in a pilot phase

In the initial phase, 150 students will undergo the training, followed by another 150 in the second phase. Upon earning their certifications, participants will receive guidance and support to explore job opportunities in Germany.

Deepak Anand, secretary to the Labour Resources Department, called it a “historic opportunity” for skilled youth, pointing out that online delivery allows more people to participate.

According to Anand, the program may be extended to other young people outside the ITIs in the future. He emphasized that improving language skills is key to ensuring the state’s youth can secure better livelihoods and bring international recognition to Bihar.
