A 24-year-old investment banker has alleged that he was abruptly dismissed by a Mumbai-based firm, claiming he was blamed for a delayed transaction and asked to leave the office the same day.
In a post shared on the r/IndianWorkplace forum, the employee said he was working at a small investment banking company in Nariman Point and was handling a fundraising transaction that faced delays due to a non-banking financial company (NBFC) lender. He alleged that despite the delay being outside his control, management held him responsible after the transaction was not completed on time.
According to the post, the banker said he had been coordinating with the lender for nearly 15 weeks and had repeatedly urged the concerned party to move the deal forward. He claimed his requests were ignored and that management later told him he was being terminated because the transaction had not closed.
The banker alleged that he had completed nearly 80% of the work on the deal and believes the firm will complete the transaction after his exit and claim credit for it. He said he had joined the company a year earlier and had worked on multiple transactions, successfully closing one deal, his first, while another did not convert.
He further claimed that he was pushed into business development responsibilities in recent months and alleged the firm had a poor turnover during the year.
The banker called the workplace as toxic and referred to the company as a “LALA company,” a colloquial term often used to describe unstructured or family-run businesses in India.
Got Laid off - Told to leave by day's end.
