Blinkit delivery boy seen driving on footpath in Bengaluru

A recent video of a Blinkit delivery boy riding a motorbike on a footpath in Bengaluru has sparked debate online about the pressure of 10-minute delivery promises and how they might contribute to traffic violations.

The video was shared by an X user named "Theshashank_p" and tagged Blinkit, questioning whether the company grants “special approval” to ride on footpaths, and alerted the Bengaluru Traffic Police to “stop this menace.”

"Hi @letsblinkit , I didn't know your delivery boys had special approval to ride on the footpaths. @blrcitytraffic , I am requesting you to please stop this menace," the user wrote.

Advertisment

Blinkit responded by apologizing for the incident and stating, “We're sorry for the inconvenience. We do not condone traffic violations of any nature. The store partner in your neighbourhood has been alerted and is swiftly addressing the concern. ~SG.”

Bengaluru Traffic Police reacts

The Bengaluru City Police also acknowledged the post, advising the user to provide precise location details and encouraging the public to report traffic offenses using the BTP Astram portal.

Netizens reaction

The post soon went viral and many people took to the comment section to share their reactions. Some blamed delivery companies for tight timelines that might prompt reckless driving, while others pointed out that such violations occur regardless of whether riders are delivery agents.

"A few years ago, there were no delivery boys and few restaurants, but today, women aren't cooking as much and they want food urgently, leaving delivery boys with no other option," a user wrote.

"This is how they fulfill 10 min delivery promise," another expressed.

"They are compelled to beat traffic to meet extremely tight delivery deadlines. While this is not the appropriate way to drive, it’s worth noting that he is on extremely lightweight, low-capacity EV. They earn small incentives if they deliver max. orders. His fault though. 🙏," a third noted.
