BookMyShow Enters Streaming Service; Launches BookMyShow Stream

BookMyShow launched with over 600 titles

  • BookMyShow Stream will feature content across various categories such as premieres, exclusives, world cinema, festival favorites, etc.

In an attempt to compete with other OTT platforms, Online ticket booking platform BookMyShow, on February 5, announced the launch of its new on-demand video streaming service BookMyShow Stream.

The newly launched streaming service under --- Transaction Video-on-Demand (TVOD) model --- will feature 600 movie titles and 72,000+ hours of content across various categories such as premieres, exclusives, world cinema, festival favorites, awarding-winning films as well as content from around the world that users can rent or buy to watch.

It will also partner with leading production houses including Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures, among others to stream Hollywood content on their platform. Additionally, It aims to add 2000 titles in the next 9-12 months.

"BookMyShow Stream will include a “specially curated library of some of the best, celebrated and award-winning films and content from around the world along with India that users can rent or buy and watch," the company said in a press release.

Famous titles including Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Craft: Legacy. Upcoming films include Alone, Yes God Yes, The Peanut Butter Falcon, The Guilty, Les Miserables, Unhinged, and Coma are being featured on the platform.

The platform will be available on the BookMyShow App, BookMyShow Website, Apple TV, Android TV, Firestick, Chromecast, and web browsers. Additionally, users will also be able to download the content to watch it offline.

It claims to be one of the first to host content from independent film distributors like Picture Works, Superfine Films, Impact Films, Kahwa Entertainment, and VR films.

Further, it will also look forward to bring the content that is produced by Indian production houses such as Viacom18, Shemaroo, and Rajshri Productions as also regional content providers like Divo and Sillymonks, among several others. 

Commenting on the launch, Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas at BookMyShow, said "The newly launched service will give entertainment lovers access to highly curated cinema offerings from around the world, thanks to some long-term, marquee, and exclusive partnerships with global and Indian content powerhouses."

"It empowers users to pay only for the content that they watch – a prevalent trend in other global cinema markets, as yet untapped at scale in India," Saksena added.
