On Sunday morning, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Indian public sector bank Canara Bank was compromised. The hacker changed the account's username to 'ether.fi."
Currently, the Canara Bank official X account has approximately 255,000 followers.
In a public statement, Canara Bank announced, "The bank's official X account has been compromised. All concerned teams are investigating the matter and are working closely with X to regain access to the Canara Bank X handle at the earliest."
The bank further advised users not to post anything on its X page until the issue is resolved. X has taken control of the compromised account and is following its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address the situation.
Canara Bank assured its followers that they would be notified as soon as the account is restored and back under the bank's control.
A bank official also confirmed that the incident has been reported to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The account will be handed back to the bank only after the completion of X's SOPs. "We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience," the bank stated.
