In a significant step towards modernizing public transportation in Odisha, Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has launched its ticketing services on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) Network by joining as a Seller Network Participant.

The announcement was made at a recent event attended by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, N. Thirumala Naik, Managing Director of CRUT, and representatives from ONDC.

Enabling seamless ticket bookings

With this launch, public bus ticketing for CRUT is now integrated into the ONDC Network, enabling seamless digital ticket bookings for commuters in Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Rourkela, and Berhampur.

This follows the successful onboarding of the Delhi Transport Corporation, which went live in September 2024, further expanding ONDC Network’s footprint in urban mobility.

Passengers can now purchase tickets using the Chalo app, a key buyer application participating in the ONDC Network. This simplifies the ticketing process and enhances the overall travel experience, making public transport more user-friendly and accessible across these cities.

With the inclusion of CRUT, intracity bus mobile ticketing is now live across five cities: Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Rourkela.

Leadership comments

Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department, Odisha, said, “ONDC is a revolutionary initiative supported by the Govt. The integration with the ONDC Network marks a pivotal step in our mission to offer smarter, more efficient mobility solutions. By bringing digital ticketing to public transport, we are ensuring that commuters in Odisha have access to a reliable and hassle-free system without compromising credibility.”

T. Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC, stated, “We are thrilled to welcome CRUT to the ONDC Network. This is one step closer to our vision of bringing in multi modal last mile connectivity to the consumers, all on one interface across the length and breadth of the country. This integration also helps in creating an open, interoperable ecosystem for urban mobility, and it highlights the role of digital innovation in improving public transportation. Together, we are moving towards transforming the way citizens experience and engage with city bus services.”
