OpenAI's popular AI chatbot ChatGPT experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users across the globe unable to access the service or receive responses to their prompts.
The disruption also extended to other services from the company, which is led by Sam Altman, including its application programming interface (API) and its new text-to-video generator, Sora.
OpenAI confirmed the problems on its official status page, acknowledging that users were experiencing "elevated error rates and latency."
As of Tuesday evening, the company stated, “We are investigating the issue for the listed services.”
Downdetector, a service that monitors website disruptions, recorded a sharp spike in user-submitted problem reports. The site had logged more than 1,300 reports globally. In India alone, about 800 separate reports were seen on the platform.
