ChatGPT, one of the most popular AI-powered chatbots developed by OpenAI, experienced a global service disruption.
Users encountered difficulties accessing both the website and chat app, with many seeing a "Bad gateway" error page rather than the usual chat option.
However, for some users, ChatGPT app appeared to work as usual. Interestingly, OpenAI's official status page claimed all systems were operational.
DownDetector—a website tracking online service interruptions—recorded a significant spike in reported issues, with over 3,500 outage reports at the time of publishing.
Users quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the service problem, sharing memes and checking if others were experiencing similar disruptions.
