Indian microblogging platform Koo Co-founder Aprameya Radhakrishna today tweeted that its early Chinese investor Shunwei Capital, which invested in the company during the development of its first product Vokal, would exit the company fully as their stakes are being bought by other investors.
Last week, Koo had raised $4.1 million (about Rs 30 crore) in a Series A funding round led by Bengaluru-based 3one4 Capital along with the participation from Accel Partners, Blume Ventures, Kalaari Capital, and Dream Incubator.
"Koo is an India registered company with Indian founders. Raised earlier capital 2.5 years ago. The latest funds for Bombinate Technologies is led by a truly Indian investor 3one4 capital. Shunwei (single-digit shareholder) which had invested in our Vokal journey will be exiting fully," Radhakrishna tweeted.
Koo claims to have former cricketer Anil Kumble, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sadhguru, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa on their platform.
Besides Koo, Chinese investor Shunwei Capital has invested in several other Indian startups including Cashify, Meesho, Mech Mocha, Sharechat, KrazyBee, and Pratilipi.
Meanwhile, He also shared the original Twitter handle of KooIndia and has requested not to follow fake accounts related to Koo. "kooindia is the official handle for Kooapp. KooAppOfficial is impersonating and is fake. Please follow the only @kooindia," he said.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), MyGov, Digital India, India Post, National Informatics Centre (NIC), National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Common Services Centre, UMANG app, Digi Locker, National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), among others, on its platform, have set up accounts on Koo.
Koo currently has 3 million downloads on the play store and app store in which 95% of users log in through their mobile phones," Radhakrishna claimed.
Further, Koo has been recognized by Atmanirbhar Bharat and won the AatmaNirbhar App Innovation Challenge held by the Government of India in August 2020.
