The Confederation Of Indian Industry (CII) and e-commerce giant Amazon has signed a deal to design a new export module to enable MSMEs to export their products in a simplified manner throughout India.

Both organizations will collectively work on the new export module that will have a detailed step-by-step guide for MSMEs to start exporting using e-commerce.

The development comes as part of the Memorandum Of Association (MoU) signed between Amazon India and CII (The Confederation Of Indian Industry) to boost MSMEs in 10 states across India into building and scaling their business in India and globally.

Amazon India and CII signed an MoU at the 17th Global SME Business Summit, a virtual event organized from New Delhi on December 9-10, 2020.

As part of the agreement, Amazon India and CII will host masterclass, conduct training, and workshops to enable MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) to sell their products online through e-commerce platforms.

Additionally, CII and Amazon will also publish regular reports that will include market analysis and insights for MSMEs on the branding of their products, logistics, success stories, and information on top-performing products.

Earlier in January 2020, Amazon India had announced --- digitizing 1 crore MSMEs; enabling $10 billion in e-commerce exports, and creating 1 million jobs by 2025.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and MSMEs, Nitin Gadkari, said that bringing rural and tribal regions to the fore was the priority of the government.

"The problem is that the contribution of rural and tribal districts is almost negligible. This is the time for the MSME ministry and industry to concentrate more on rural, agriculture, tribal districts, and 115 aspirant districts,” he said.

"I am pleased to see CII and Amazon working together on this critical agenda. The combined efforts of the government and the industry will bring us closer to realizing the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat," he added.

"The role of Amazon is very crucial in taking Indian MSMEs online to sell to the global market," he said.

Commenting on the partnership, Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President & Country Head, Amazon India, said, "As we continue to work closely with the government on this important agenda, our collaboration with CII will help bring more and more MSMEs online, help them be part of the growing digital economy and create newer business opportunities for them."

"The pandemic has made apparent the role that technology will play through meaningful interventions. Given the rapid shift towards adoption of digital solutions, MSMEs must receive the information and support that will aid in their digital transformation," said Chandrajit Banerjee, CII Director-General.

In June 2020, Amazon India had launched its 'MSME Accelerate' programme to help startups start their operation as offices reopened across the country.
