Mumbai-based content marketplace startup Pepper Content raises $4.2 million (Rs 30 crore) in its Series A funding round led by Lightspeed Ventures and other leading angel investors from India and the United States region.
Investors including Beerud Sheth (Founder, Upwork), Balaji Srinivasan (Coinbase CTO, ex-GP at a16z), Gaurav Munjal (Founder, Unacademy), Aakrit Vaish (Founder, Haptik), Miten Sampat (ex-CSO, Times Internet), Akhil Paul (Caparo Group), Utsav Somani (iSeed/AngelList), and Dilip Khandelwal (Ex-MD, SAP Labs India) have also participated in the funding round.
The startup will use this fresh capital to expand into various content categories such as audio and video and to expand its reach in Southeast Asia regions.
In February 2020, Pepper Content raised Rs 2.2 crore in its Seed funding round from Titan Capital and other investors including YourStory, Sidharth Rao (CEO, WebChutney), Saurabh Srivastav (Chairman, Indian Angel Network), Sanjay Tripathi (Investor), Ritesh Malik (CEO, Innov8 coworking), Manan Maheshwari (Founder, Zapluk), Hemanshu Jain (CEO, Diabeto), Amit Ranjan (Angel Investor), and Alok Mittal (CEO, Indifi Technologies).
With this latest investment, The startup has raised $4.4 million (Rs 33 crore) in a total of 2 funding rounds.

"With this investment, We have a strong product focus and we want to look at all kinds of content and get a strong grip on the content creation market," said, Anirudh Singla, Co-founder, and CEO of Pepper Content.
“Our mission is to disrupt the entire content creation industry at scale and create a stronger, high quality, and more organized ecosystem for content creators,” he added.
"The maturity, speed, and agility that the team exhibited has impressed us a lot and also convinced us that Pepper is all set to build a very large global business in the burgeoning passion economy," said Bipin Shah, Partner at Titan Capital.
Pepper Content claims that they are having more than 30,000 content creators in different fields, including content writers, graphic designers, production, language specialist, and editors in its platform.
Additionally, The platform content creators have created over 100,000 content pieces, earning over $400,000 in the first two years of its launch.
Currently, Pepper Content is competing with local and international content creation platforms such as Lexicon, Orangus, Mindworks Global among many others.
Pepper Content is working with more than 400 customers, including e-commerce giant Amazon, food delivery platform Swiggy, Paytm, etc.
