Amid the increasing growth of AI adoption among sectors, PM Narendra Modi, while addressing the G20 Digital Economy Ministers’ Meet held in Bengaluru via video message, said suggested the development of a framework for the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
While addressing the meeting, PM Modi encouraged to promote the use of digital technology by farmers and small businesses and established the framework to build a global digital health ecosystem.
He said that processing a common framework for Digital Public Infrastructure will help create a transparent, accountable, and fair digital ecosystem. He also appreciated efforts to develop a Roadmap to Facilitate Cross Country Comparison of Digital Skills and to set up a Virtual Centre of Excellence on Digital Skilling.
As the digital economy grows, He further highlighted security threats and challenges and urged to build consensus on the G20 High-Level Principles for a Secure, Trusted, and Resilient Digital Economy.
Highlighting India's Digital Public Infrastructure, PM Modi said it offers scalable, secure and inclusive solutions for global challenges.
"We offered our CoWIN platform for global good during the Covid pandemic. We have now created an online Global Public Digital Goods Repository - the India Stack. This is to ensure that no one is left behind. Especially our brothers and sisters from the Global South," PM Modi said.
The CoWIN portal supported India's Covid vaccination drive. It helped in the delivery of over 2 billion vaccine doses along with digitally verifiable certificates," he said.
PM Modi also mentioned about Gati-Shakti platform which uses technology and spatial planning to map infrastructure and logistics, which helps in assisting in planning, reducing costs, and increasing speed of delivery.
He talked about the Government e-Marketplace and Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and the development of Bhashini, an AI-powered language translation platform, which is aimed at supporting digital inclusion in all the diverse languages of India.
He also mentioned India's growth in terms of total internet users, which stands at over 850 million.
He also mentioned UPI's success. "Every month, nearly 10 billion transactions take place on UPI, our instant payment system. More than 45% of the global real time payments happen in India. Direct Benefits Transfer of government support is plugging leakages, and has saved over 33 billion dollars," he added.
