Rohan Malhotra passes away

Rohan Malhotra

Rohan Malhotra, co-founder and managing partner of early-stage venture capital firm Good Capital, passed away on October 1.

Malhotra, widely respected for his sharp investment insights and unwavering dedication to fostering entrepreneurial talent, co-founded Good Capital in 2019 alongside his brother, Arjun Malhotra.

In just a few years, the firm established itself as a key player in India’s venture capital landscape, backing innovative startups that focused on agent-led distribution models and entrepreneurs who approached problem-solving with a first-principles mindset.

Born with a passion for business, Malhotra began his career as an intern at HSBC but quickly rose to prominence in the startup world. Prior to founding Good Capital, he co-founded Investopad, a startup incubator designed to support early-stage entrepreneurs and encourage innovation.

Under Malhotra's leadership, Good Capital made impactful investments in companies like Meesho, Orange Health, Solar Square Energy, and HyperTrack. The firm also launched its maiden fund with a target corpus of $25 million that invested in startups from pre-seed to Series A stages.

He earned an M.A. in Business Management from the University of St. Andrews and completed a stint at Yale University through their YSS in Economics program.

Indian startup ecosystem mourns

Condolences have poured in from friends, colleagues, and industry leaders.

"Shattering to think of a world without you, Rohan. In your short, well-lived life, you filled us with warmth, laughter, ambition, and hugs. They made only one like you. Yaaron ka yaar, hum sab ka bhai. Travel well, my brother. 'Big hug!' ?" Zishaan Hayath, cofounder of edtech startup Toppr said.

“Feeling broken. The kindest, the most generous, the most open hearted one ever created. Rest in peace, Rohan,” Rahul Chaudhary, cofounder of Treebo, said.

“Rohan was more than a friend, he was my little brother, my golf partner and an irreplaceable human being. Memories you have given us in a short time are forever. Life can be very unfair at times,” Waqar Younis, former Pakistan Cricket Team coach wrote on X.

"It has taken me a few days to process and accept the reality that my dear friend, little brother @R0hanMalhotra has left us. The world will never know a kinder, fun loving, caring, beautiful soul. We were fortunate enough to spend time together just a few weeks ago. We played a round of golf which was his favorite past time. Epic match. Forever "still in the meeting". 😢 Miss you brother. Hug your loved ones today, never miss an opportunity to spend time with them," Sunny Madra wrote.
