Online travel platform EaseMyTrip has announced a major step into India’s electric mobility sector through its wholly owned subsidiaries, YoloBus and Easy Green Mobility, by securing Madhya Pradesh’s first-ever inter-city electric bus tender.
The award, issued by Sagar City Transport Services Limited (SCTSL), will see YoloBus operate these electric buses, which will be manufactured by Easy Green Mobility.
Launch scheduled for August 2025
According to the company's statement, the initial batch of state-of-the-art EV buses is scheduled to hit the roads by August 2025.
EaseMyTrip co-founder and CEO Rikant Pittie said the move responds to the rising need for electric buses in a market still grappling with undersupply.
“Our entry into in-house electric bus manufacturing is a direct response to the strong demand we’ve observed through YoloBus,” Pittie said.
“In a market where supply struggles to meet soaring demand, we recognized that this strategic shift was not just necessary to address immediate operational needs but also to capture a rapidly growing market.”
The company cited an 18.2% CAGR for the Indian EV sector, currently valued at about $331.9 million.
The role of government programs
The initiative is further buoyed by government programs such as the PM E-Drive, various state-level EV policies, and production-linked incentives that encourage domestic manufacturing.
Pittie said EaseMyTrip will invest about Rs 200 crore in its new subsidiary, Easy Green Mobility, to create a fully “Make-in-India” product.
Manoj Soni, CEO of Easy Green Mobility, voiced enthusiasm about partnering with the Madhya Pradesh government, noting it aligns with India’s broader aim to localize e-mobility solutions.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with SCTSL and the Madhya Pradesh government in their commitment to advancing sustainable mobility,” Soni said. “We are excited to roll out our advanced electric buses through YoloBus, providing a new experience to the people of Madhya Pradesh with eco-friendly travel solutions and comfortable buses.”
Focused on expansion
The tender win arrives as YoloBus continues to expand its intercity bus operations, currently running on more than 250 routes. By the end of this year, YoloBus aims to increase that number to over 400, with the new electric bus fleet playing a central role in that expansion.
These vehicles will feature near-zero carbon emissions, minimal noise pollution, and amenities like real-time tracking, onboard entertainment, and punctual departures.
“YoloBus is setting new benchmarks in sustainable transportation, enhancing mobility for both tourists and daily commuters while fostering a cleaner, more efficient transport ecosystem in India,” the company said in a statement.
As part of the deal, YoloBus will operate the new buses to serve routes within Madhya Pradesh, but the company envisions a broader national rollout in future phases.
