Edtech Startup Kyt Raises Rs 18 Crore Sequoia Surge, Titan Capital, And Others

Bangalore-based edtech startup Kyt has raised Rs 18 crore (or about $2.4 million) in funding led by Sequoia Capital India's scale-up programme Sequoia Surge.

Other investors, Titan Capital, along with a group of angel investors, including Kunal Shah, Amrish Rau, Jitender Gupta, Allen Pen, and Martin Li, also participated in the funding round.

Titan Capital has also been an investor in Ola Cabs and Khatabook.

The startup will use the funding to expand its online first, global academy for extracurricular learning. While it also plans to add more courses, including Chess, Public Speaking, various musical instruments, creative writing, and content creation, the startup said in a statement.

Kyt is also a part of the fourth cohort of the Sequoia Surge Programme by Sequoia Capital India.

Commenting on the latest investment, Bhavik Rathod, Founder, Kyt, said, "The future of education is a hybrid of online and offline learning, and the market size for primary and secondary extracurricular learning is estimated to be $10bn in India alone and around $200bn globally."

"While most learnings used to happen in physical spaces, there will be rapid adoption of online learning even beyond Covid-19, as these well-structured curriculums will build strong global communities, encouraging children to remain engaged over time," he added.

The platform claims to have more than 20 teachers on board, with plans to increase it to 500 over the next 12 months. Kyt currently has more than 1,000 students attending courses and workshops.

Founded in June 2020, by husband-wife duo Bhavik Rathod and Tripti Ahuja. Kyt is an online-first global academy focussing on providing extracurricular learning for children aged between 5-15 years.

The platform uses technology to provide online-only sessions, having global educators, including Indian Chess Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi, Philippine hip-hop artist Ruel Varindani and celebrity yoga instructor Sabrina Merchant.

Kyt offers two learning approaches with its content: Kyt Academy and Kyt Workshops.

Kyt Academy courses are specifically designed for children who are passionate about specific areas of knowledge such as yoga, language, reading, and dance. Kyt Workshop offers one-time classes for children having different interests, including cooking, animation, poetry, etc.
