Starlink, the satellite internet venture owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has moved a step closer to its India launch by formally disclosing the pricing of its residential service.
According to the revised Starlink India website, the monthly fee for the Residential plan has been set at Rs 8,600. The hardware kit carries a one-time cost of Rs 34,000.
Users can self-install the equipment, plug it in, and begin using the service. The package includes unlimited data, a 30-day trial period, and a network engineered for more than 99.9% uptime.
Starlink claims the system is designed to work reliably in all weather conditions. These features place the offering in line with Starlink’s global product suite, but the company’s positioning in India is distinct given the large number of regions where terrestrial fibre connectivity remains limited.
Despite the pricing disclosure, the service is not yet operational.
The availability map on the website continues to show India as “pending regulatory approval”.Location-based checks currently return the message that Starlink Residential is not available in the user’s region, with an option to sign up for updates. Industry executives expect full approval in the short term, given that several permissions have already been cleared by the government.
Details of the Business or enterprise plans are yet to be announced.
Starlink is expected to outline its commercial offerings in the coming weeks as part of a broader rollout strategy. The company is also deepening its physical and operational footprint in India.
In late October, SpaceX posted four job openings on LinkedIn for its Bengaluru office, including roles for a Payments Manager, an Accounting Manager, a Senior Treasury Analyst and a Tax Manager. The listings stated that the hiring drive is part of efforts to expand Starlink’s international operations. Infrastructure preparations are also underway.
Recent reports indicate that SpaceX plans to establish gateway earth stations in cities such as Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Noida. These ground facilities function as relay points between Starlink’s satellites and user terminals, and are critical for ensuring low-latency, stable connectivity across the country ahead of a full-scale commercial launch.
In India, Starlink is expected to join Jio-SES and Eutelsat OneWeb as one of the three major players shaping the emerging satellite communications market once regulatory approvals are completed.
