Electric ride-hailing service BluSmart has launched a dedicated pet travel option called Pet Rides in Delhi and Gurugram, giving pet owners another way to take their dogs and cats on the road.
The service follows Uber’s decision last year to introduce Uber Pet, a feature that allows riders to book pet-friendly trips under specific guidelines. Ola does not have a formal pet policy, but it typically leaves the decision to the driver.
BluSmart’s pet rides
BluSmart’s Pet Rides are available for standard point-to-point bookings as well as for longer rentals. The vehicles have been designed to ensure a comfortable journey for both owners and their pets, offering foldable dog-seat hammocks, designated carrier space and enhanced ventilation.
The company said the cars are cleaned thoroughly after every trip to maintain hygiene and they come with foldable dog-seat hammocks for carrier space and pet comfort with optimal ventilation.
“At BluSmart, we believe that the best journeys are shared with loved ones, including our furry family members. The newly launched ‘Pet Rides’ service is a testament to our commitment to provide inclusive and convenient transportation solutions tailored to our riders’ needs,” said co-founder and CEO Anirudh Arun.
The current landscape
Uber introduced its pet-friendly rides in September 2024 with a set of rules, including a ban on certain dog breeds such as Pitbull Terrier, Tosa Inu, American Staffordshire Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, American Bulldog and Rottweiler.
Uber also limits each ride to just one pet at a time, either a dog or a cat. Ola, on the other hand, does not have a formal policy but leaves the decision on pet travel to individual drivers.
BluSmart has not yet released detailed guidelines on whether any breeds might be restricted or if there is a limit on how many pets can ride in one trip.
