ClearDekho

ClearDekho, a homegrown eyewear startup focused on affordable optical solutions, has been acquired by the Jaipuria Group, marking a strategic move by the company to deepen its presence in the retail and healthcare segments.

According to reports, the deal will see ClearDekho continue operating as an independent brand, though all business operations will now be managed by the Jaipuria Group. Over the next two years, existing shareholders will exit entirely, resulting in 100% ownership by the acquirer.

The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

ClearDekho's market presence

Founded in 2017 by Shivi Singh, ClearDekho was built around a simple yet ambitious idea: to make prescription eyeglasses and optical care affordable and accessible for lower-income consumers, particularly in smaller towns. It grew through an omnichannel model comprising an online presence and a network of FOCO (franchise-owned, company-operated) stores.

Notably, the Group may consider integrating ClearDekho into its broader portfolio over time, depending on the brand’s maturity and performance.

Scaling a niche in value eyewear

Operating in a market largely dominated by premium players, ClearDekho carved out a niche by targeting price-sensitive consumers often underserved by large optical chains. The brand claims to have over 100 stores across more than 50 cities in India and reported a gross margin of over 65%.

Despite reporting a modest revenue of Rs 12.8 crore in FY24 and a loss of Rs 7.13 crore, it achieved 3x growth over the past three years. With a topline goal of Rs 300 crore over the next three years, ClearDekho is aiming to capture 10% of India's eyewear market within five to seven years.

The brand offers a wide range of products, from prescription glasses and reading lenses to contact lenses and sunglasses, all priced for affordability.
