Binny Bansal
Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal has introduced a new startup called Opptra that aims to help consumer brands expand across Asia.
Opptra plans to build a portfolio of franchising businesses with deep category expertise, backed by advanced technology and a robust supply chain.
Mission and vision
Binny Bansal, who co-founded Flipkart and exited the e-commerce giant after it was sold to Walmart, said many consumer brands struggle to expand globally because they face cultural, infrastructural, and regulatory hurdles in new markets.
He believes Opptra can solve this problem by offering localized expertise, digital tools, and master franchise partnerships, all under one roof.
Technology and supply chain focus
Opptra is developing technology across the full value chain to make market entry faster and simpler. Its approach involves AI-driven strategies, swift fulfillment, and data analytics. The goal is to combine efficient online retail practices with traditional brick-and-mortar channels to suit local consumer habits.
Bansal said his experience at Flipkart, where he scaled one of the world’s largest e-commerce platforms, will guide Opptra’s plans for a global supply chain equipped with robotics and automation.
Leadership and franchising businesses
Opptra has recruited industry leaders, including CEO of Electronics and General Merchandise, Ranjit Babu, who has worked at Nokia, Apple, and Amazon India.
The technology division is led by Giridhar Yasa, formerly of Lendingkart and Flipkart, and Anand Raj, who has worked at Flipkart and Swiggy, will manage the supply chain.
Puneet Khanna and Rahul Gupta are vice presidents leading the expansion of fashion and lifestyle, as well as home and kitchenware segments under two existing businesses called Exporio and Terraspan.
Growing Asia market
Asia accounts for about 70% of global consumer growth, and e-commerce has made it easier for brands to reach new audiences without the traditional costs of physical retail. Bansal said this is only the beginning and that his longer-term vision is to help brands expand anywhere around the world.
Opptra’s current ventures focus on the Gulf Cooperation Council, India, and Southeast Asia, with more categories such as electronics, sports, baby care, and general merchandise in the pipeline.
While Opptra’s work starts in Asia, the startup intends to eventually offer its services worldwide. By combining a global supply-chain network with advanced technology and a team of seasoned experts, Bansal hopes to create a one-stop solution for brands looking to grow in diverse markets.
