Walmart owned e-commerce platform Flipkart has confirmed to transform their delivery fleet completely by the year 2030. The main reason of this decision is concern on the environmental health.
Flipkart has joined the EV100, The Climate Group, A global initiative bringing together companies to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs)and making the transportation sector new normal by the year 2030.
Furthermore, The Indian government and the state government is also pushing companies to increase the adoption of electric vehicles on their business for the past few years. The government has also introduced some policies and redemption such as FAME I, FAME II, and cut in GST (Goods and service tax).
According to the statement by the Flipkart spokesperson, the adoption of EVs will improve the long-term sustainability across its e-commerce value chain.
Moreover, Flipkart spokesperson said, The integration of EVs on Flipkart will be done in phased manner which will include both directly owned or leased corporate fleets.
Firstly it will be done by placing requirements in service contracts, then installing charging infrastructures in approx. 1400+ supply chain, conducting awareness program, schemes, and bonus program to its delivery partners towards the adoption of EVs.

"Delighted to announce that Flipkart is the first e-commerce marketplace in India to commit to transition 100% of our fleet to electric vehicles by 2030 joining the EV100 global initiative with The Climate Group. This will play a significant role in making clean mobility mainstream", said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Flipkart Group CEO.
“As a homegrown company, we always pride ourselves in making ecommerce more inclusive, progressive and impactful for all our stakeholders, which also includes communities and the planet", he added.
Besides the electric vehicle adoption initiative, Flipkart is also committed to reducing the usage of single-use plastic packaging on their product and had already achieved 51% reduction in the usage of single-use plastic packaging in its supply chain.
