In a significant move to make educational resources more accessible, Flipkart, a Walmart-owned e-commerce giant, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

The partnership, announced in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, aims to ensure the affordable availability of NCERT textbooks across the country, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Collaboration to bridge the education gap

The MoU, signed at the NCERT office in Delhi, underscores the government’s mission to democratize access to quality education. By leveraging Flipkart’s vast technological expertise and logistics network, NCERT books will now be delivered directly to students and parents, reaching even the most remote parts of the country.

Authorized sellers designated by NCERT will facilitate the availability of authentic and high-quality content through Flipkart's platform.

Speaking at the event, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized NCERT’s role as a cornerstone of India’s education system. “NCERT is not just an institution but a repository of knowledge for our nation. This partnership with Flipkart will empower students by ensuring seamless access to educational books,” he said.

Pradhan further highlighted that the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which promotes inclusive and technology-driven learning.

A broader push for digital learning

The event also marked the launch of multiple education-focused initiatives. The Google Learning Centre was inaugurated to equip educators with advanced digital tools, including training in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

The state-of-the-art facility, designed for 40 participants, aims to bridge the digital divide among teachers and students across the country.

Additionally, Union Minister Pradhan unveiled the NISHTHA Integrated Teacher Training Modules to enhance teacher capacities and 200 YouTube channels to simulcast PMeVIDYA DTH TV Channels, extending digital learning opportunities to students nationwide.

Flipkart’s commitment to education

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart, highlighted the platform’s role in supporting India’s education ecosystem. “Education is the backbone of progress, and we are proud to collaborate with NCERT. Through our platform’s extensive reach, we aim to ensure every student has access to affordable learning resources,” he said.

Google India’s Sanjay Jain reiterated the importance of digital tools in achieving the vision of NEP 2020, stressing that initiatives like the Learning Centre would help educators adapt to emerging digital skills.
