Flipkart's Shopsy launches zero commission marketplace for sellers

Homegrown ecommerce marketplace Flipkart's Shopsy today announced the launch of a zero-commission marketplace for small sellers in the country. With this digital initiative, the company aims to help smaller sellers in the fashion, grocery, and home categories to come forward and showcase their offerings on such a big platform.

Flipkart intends to scale from 70% to 90% with Shopsy. The company believes that gamification, in conjunction with social commerce features, will assist it in achieving this goal. Among all, one such feature is Shop & Earn, which allows users to unlock higher incentives by meeting a weekly/monthly target. This type of gamification will result in more popularity and bring more customers.

Speaking on the development, Prakash Sikaria, Senior Vice-President – Growth and Monetization, Flipkart, said, “Our vision with Shopsy is to enable digital commerce for everyone across India. We have received an overwhelming response and are further looking to enable several initiatives on the platform to accelerate growth."

"Shopsy is growing 100% week on week. The platform is demonstrating the behavior of a typical social app and virality is starting to kick in. To further expedite this, we aim to bring the best of e-commerce to social commerce as we progress in our journey. The Flipkart Group has been committed to constantly expanding the scope of e-commerce, and Shopsy is an important step in that direction,” he added.

Shopsy has already onboarded over 2 lakh users in less than a month since its launch. With the arrival of the festive season, the platform intends to continue accelerating its growth over the next two months by expanding features and offerings for Indians looking to begin their social commerce journey.

The platform offers social commerce opportunities to enterprising Indians. Using their local network, Shopsy users can share catalogs of a diverse range of 15 crore products offered by Flipkart sellers via social media and communication apps.

Providing access to its catalog and full-stack e-commerce services over a simplified social media interface, Flipkart believes can democratize commerce and can disrupt the emerging social commerce landscape.

Over the last decade, Flipkart has succeeded in several initiatives aimed at its customers' value through the use of technology and innovation. Shopsy is yet another to provide a solid and necessary foundation for the success of a next-generation social commerce platform.

Sellers have been already taking advantage of Flipkart's ad tech platform to supplement the zero-commission strategy. Furthermore, Flipkart's low-cost logistics network and affordability programs such as "Flipkart Pay Later" are two key levers that could turn the game of social commerce.
