Prateek Mehta, a former senior executive at Angel One and Myntra, has been appointed as the founding partner for South Park Commons (SPC) in India.
Mehta, a seasoned leader in the Indian tech startup space, announced the development in a post on LinkedIn on September 24.
With over 15 years of experience in various leadership roles, he expressed excitement about his new role and his desire to help Indian founders and builders create profound impacts in the world.
Prateek Mehta shares post on LinkedIn
"Thrilled to let you all know that I have recently joined South Park Commons as the Founding Partner for India - and we have launched the India chapter in Bangalore!" Mehta wrote.
As a founder, one does want to build the best company that s/he can. And to do that, the founder(s) have to get to high quality answers to - 'Why this?', 'Why now?' and 'Why me?'
"I felt that there is a gaping hole in the ecosystem that provides for an intellectually safe and emotionally secure space for founders to do this. It was exactly here that I feel that the tug of the South Park Commons model is the strongest. Looking at the SPC model, it was clear to me that this is something that is clearly missing in the Indian space. Aditya Agarwal, Ruchi Sanghvi and Binny Bansal felt like the right partners/ leaders to bring this to India with."
"So as I embark on my next adventure, I want to help other founders / builders impact the world in profound ways. Super excited to be building this as I get out of my own -1 to 0 phase!" Mehta added.
South Park Commons expands into India
South Park Commons, a Silicon Valley-based tech startup community and early-stage venture fund, was founded in 2015 by Ruchi Sanghvi, the first female engineer at Facebook, and Aditya Agarwal, former CTO at Dropbox.
The fund supports entrepreneurs, technologists, and researchers, particularly during the early stages of their journey when they are figuring out their next venture.
In July 2023, SPC made its formal entry into India by launching its first international outpost in Bengaluru, in partnership with Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal.
The decision to expand into India comes amid growing global interest in the country’s booming startup ecosystem, driven by widespread smartphone adoption and affordable internet access.
Mehta’s role in the Indian startup ecosystem
Before joining SPC, Mehta held several high-profile positions in the tech and startup world. He was the executive director and chief business officer at Angel One, a leading stockbroking firm, from November 2022 to April 2024.
In 2016, he co-founded Scripbox, a digital wealth management platform based in Bengaluru that distributes mutual funds. He also served as senior vice president at Myntra from May 2014 to December 2015, contributing to its growth in the competitive e-commerce market.
