New Update
Google Pay SoundPod

Following the strict action taken against Sharma's Paytm Payments Bank, Google Pay has announced the launch of SoundPod with the aim of enhancing the digital payment experience in the Indian market.

SoundPod is an innovative audio device designed to assist merchants in tracking QR code payments through audio alerts.

Launched initially in a limited pilot phase, Google said SoundPod has received positive feedback for its ability to reduce checkout times. The company plans to make SoundPods accessible to small merchants across the country in the coming months.

SoundPod vs. Soundbox

Advertisment

With the Reserve Bank of India's recent directive to Paytm Payments Bank Limited, Google Pay's announcement of expanding SoundPod services comes at a pivotal moment. SoundPod, offering real-time audio alerts for QR code payments, is seen as a direct competitor to Paytm's Soundbox.

However, Sharma's Paytm has assured its merchants that the Soundbox will continue to operate. This came after the company shifted its nodal account to private lender Axis Bank.

How can merchants access SoundPod?

Through a detailed blog post, the company outlined the subscription options available to merchants, which include both daily and yearly plans. It aims to enhance the transaction experience for businesses utilizing GPay QR codes.

The activation process for the SoundPod service is straightforward, requiring merchants to use the Google Pay for Business app. For small and medium-sized businesses who wants to adopt this technology, Google Pay has made the device available through the Google Pay for Business app.

Subscription and features

The pricing structure includes a one-time fee of Rs 499, followed by a daily charge of Rs 5 for 25 days each month, directly deducted from the merchant's settlement account. Alternatively, merchants can opt for an annual subscription at Rs 1499, which offers a saving of Rs 500 compared to the daily plan.

To boost adoption, Google Pay is offering a guaranteed cashback of Rs 125 to merchants who receive 400 payments in a month via GPay QR codes.

The SoundPod features simple controls for power, volume adjustment, and accessing transaction history. Merchants can review their transactions and download invoices directly from the Google Pay for Business app.
