Google's AI platform Gemini has reportedly signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to partner with the Indian Premier League (IPL), in a deal estimated at around Rs 270 crore, according to an ET report.
The partnership reflects the growing interest of AI-led platforms in Indian cricket, as they look to tap the tournament’s unmatched reach across television and digital platforms.
Gemini’s entry into the IPL ecosystem comes just months after rival AI platform ChatGPT signed a sponsorship deal with the Women’s Premier League (WPL) late last year. That two-year agreement was valued at around Rs 16 crore.
The trend follows a reshuffle in the sports advertising market after the government’s ban on real money gaming (RMG) last year, which included fantasy sports platforms. The ban led to the abrupt exit of Dream11 from its IPL jersey sponsorship deal and wiped out nearly Rs 7,000 crore of advertising spend from the market.
Apollo Tyres subsequently secured the IPL jersey sponsorship rights for the 2025–2028 cycle with a bid of Rs 579 crore, after outbidding players such as design platform Canva, which had bid Rs 554 crore. Tata Group continues to hold the title sponsorship rights for the IPL.
