Groww launches emergency trading portal to protect traders during outages

Groww CEO Lalit Keshre

Indian stock broking platform Groww has launched Groww Lite, a web-based emergency trading portal designed to help users manage their trades during platform outages or technical disruptions.

The company said Groww Lite allows users to square off or exit existing open positions even if the main Groww app or website becomes temporarily inaccessible. The portal is intended as a fail-safe option during critical market hours, when outages or network failures can prevent traders from accessing their accounts.

The launch follows a series of recent internet disruptions, including a Cloudflare-related outage in early December that affected access to several digital platforms, including trading apps like Zerodha's Kite, Groww, Angel One, and many others who rely on Cloudflare. During that incident, users reported login issues and an inability to trade amid volatile market conditions.

Groww Lite is a secure, web-based platform that can be accessed through any browser on desktop or mobile devices. It operates on a separate DNS infrastructure and is built to bypass standard routing layers and Cloudflare dependencies.

According to the company, this design reduces reliance on external cloud and routing services, allowing the portal to remain functional even if the primary platform or third-party infrastructure faces disruptions.

Unlike the main Groww platform, Groww Lite is limited in scope and does not allow new trades. It can only be used to manage or close existing positions. The company described it as a “secondary channel” rather than a replacement for its core app and website.

“We are continuously working to make our core platforms even more robust. Groww Lite is designed as a safety layer for our users, something they hopefully never need to use, but can depend on completely when they do,” the company said in a statement.
