HCLSoftware to acquire metadata management software provider Zeenea

HCLSoftware, the software division of HCLTech, has announced its intention to acquire Zeenea, a French company specializing in data catalogue and governance solutions.

The acquisition, which is valued at 24 million euros, is expected to be finalized in September 2024.

The strategic move aims to bolster HCLSoftware's Data & Analytics business, particularly through its Actian Data Platform, which has experienced significant growth in hybrid data management and integration.

Strengthening data management capabilities

Founded in 2017, Paris-based Zeenea has developed an intelligent data discovery platform that supports various metadata management applications. 

These include search and exploration, data catalogue, lineage, governance, compliance, and enterprise data marketplace.

By incorporating Zeenea’s capabilities, HCLSoftware plans to offer a unified data intelligence solution that will enable enterprises to efficiently manage, connect, and leverage their data, thus accelerating their data engineering and GenAI initiatives.

Kalyan Kumar, Chief Product Officer at HCLSoftware, emphasized the growing importance of metadata management in the current business environment.

"Metadata management is becoming critical for our customers to accelerate their GenAI initiatives across business functions. Zeenea will further accelerate the growth in the data and analytics space for HCLSoftware," Kumar said.

A comprehensive data solution

The integration of Zeenea’s technology into HCLSoftware’s offerings is expected to provide a more comprehensive data management solution.

Marc Potter, CEO of Actian and Portfolio General Manager of HCLSoftware's Data & Analytics business, noted that the addition of Zeenea’s data catalogue and governance capabilities would enhance HCLSoftware’s portfolio, allowing the company to offer a single-vendor solution for the complex data needs of modern enterprises.

"Zeenea's data catalogue and governance capabilities will extend our portfolio to offer a comprehensive, single-vendor solution to meet all the data needs of today’s data-driven enterprises."

Zeenea's Role in the Acquisition

Luc Legardeur, CEO and Co-founder of Zeenea, expressed confidence in the benefits that the acquisition will bring to both companies' customers.

He highlighted how Zeenea’s advanced knowledge graph and intelligent data discovery platform will complement HCLSoftware’s existing solutions.

"Incorporating Zeenea's capabilities with HCLSoftware will deliver a differentiated solution for customers," Legardeur said.

He also said that the integration would provide a tailored approach to data management, addressing the unique needs of HCLSoftware's diverse client base.
