HCLTech appoints Kiran Cherukuri
Indian technology company HCLTech has appointed Kiran Cherukuri as the Global GCC Practice Leader, reinforcing its focus on India’s rapidly expanding Global Capability Center (GCC) ecosystem.
Cherukuri, a technology industry veteran with over three decades of experience, returns to HCLTech to spearhead efforts aimed at deepening the company’s engagement with global enterprises establishing or scaling their offshore delivery centers in India.
In his new role, Cherukuri will be responsible for scaling HCLTech’s GCC practice by creating focused service offerings that blend the company’s extensive technology and service portfolio with its corporate function capabilities. HCLTech currently partners with over 200 GCCs in India.
A strategic bet on India’s GCC momentum
“GCCs have evolved into centers of strategic digital innovation for global enterprises. HCLTech plans to double down on this fast-growing segment with a sharp focus on India,” said Rahul Singh, Chief Operating Officer—Corporate Functions, HCLTech, in a statement.
“I am confident that Kiran's rich experience, deep domain expertise, and ecosystem acumen will enable us to build on our proven leadership in the GCC space.”
The announcement aligns with a broader industry trend, as top-tier Indian IT services companies increasingly compete to support multinationals in setting up or expanding GCCs in the country—a segment that now contributes over $20 billion in revenue to Indian IT and business process service providers, according to estimates by Everest Group.
A veteran’s return
Cherukuri, who holds a degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management, brings with him a blend of leadership roles across established firms and entrepreneurial ventures.
He previously spent over 14 years at HCLTech, playing key roles across Digital Foundation Services, Engineering and R&D, Industry Solutions, and Talent Solutions.
“I am excited to be part of HCLTech once again and contribute to the growth strategy for this segment,” Cherukuri said. “GCCs are poised to deliver higher value through the transformation of technology and skills.”
In his earlier stint, he was instrumental in setting up global delivery centers and driving business development, marketing, and alliance strategies, underscoring his operational versatility.
Growing focus across the industry
HCLTech joins a growing list of IT majors—including Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Capgemini, and Accenture—that have established dedicated GCC practices.
Last month, Infosys appointed Deval Shah to head its GCC division. The strategic pivot comes amid a shift in global enterprise behaviour, with insourcing through GCCs gaining momentum as companies seek more control and efficiency in their digital transformation efforts.
