Hero MotoCorp, a leading two-wheeler manufacturer, has joined the Indian government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
The move marks Hero MotoCorp as the first automobile company to integrate with the government-backed platform.
The company said the integration into ONDC will initially focus on offering two-wheeler parts, accessories, and merchandise.
Enhancing customer access and convenience
By joining ONDC, Hero MotoCorp aims to make it easier for customers to access 'Hero Genuine Parts' and other products through buyer apps available on the network, such as Paytm and Mystore.
The company's strategy is to leverage the network to ensure faster, hyperlocal deliveries, which are supported by its robust physical distribution network.
This will enhance customer convenience and streamline the purchase process across India, potentially benefiting over 115 million Hero customers, the company said.
"At Hero MotoCorp, customer-centricity and digital innovation are at the core of everything we do. Now, with ONDC Network, we have pioneered the automotive taxonomy for the auto industry, making it easier for customers to find vehicle parts and accessories to begin with," said Niranjan Gupta, CEO of Hero MotoCorp.
Driving digital transformation
ONDC aims to democratize digital commerce by offering a unified platform that connects buyers and sellers across various categories, including groceries, fashion, and more.
T. Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC, highlighted the significance of Hero MotoCorp’s participation: "When brands like Hero MotoCorp embrace the Open Network, it reaffirms our vision of driving digital transformation in the country by creating a fair and efficient ecosystem for all kinds of businesses to thrive."
The platform's flexibility allows integration of various service providers, from ride-hailing apps like Uber and Ola to payment services like BHIM, enhancing its utility and reach.
Supporting broader digital India initiatives
The collaboration between Hero MotoCorp and ONDC is seen as a strategic move that aligns with the government's broader Digital India initiative.
The initiative seeks to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. Moreover, the integration supports local communities and small businesses, including efforts to connect women self-help groups and MSMEs to digital commerce, expanding their reach and operational efficiency.
