IIT-B partners with upGrad

The International Institute of Information Technology, Bengaluru (IIIT-B), in partnership with edtech unicorn upGrad, has introduced an Executive Post-Graduate Certificate program in Cloud and DevOps.

The partnership aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the cloud computing and DevOps sectors.

According to industry forecasts, more than 50% of enterprises are expected to adopt industry-specific cloud platforms by 2028, underlining the transition of cloud technology from a disruptive force to a business essential. Yet, the market faces a significant challenge: over 19% of recruiters struggle to find experienced DevOps professionals, a gap this program aims to fill.

A comprehensive learning experience

The program offers extensive coverage of major cloud services, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), along with concepts tested in AWS and Azure certification exams.

Notably, the program is also suitable for non-tech professionals who want to venture into the cloud and DevOps fields.

The curriculum is extensive, covering more than 50 live training sessions. It includes continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), containerization using Docker and Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code (IaC). Significant emphasis is placed on DevOps principles, advanced topics like DevSecOps, SynOps, and the design of scalable microservices architectures.

Real-world application and certification preparedness

Learners will gain practical experience by deploying web applications and engaging in hands-on training, which is crucial for roles requiring the deployment and management of web applications in cloud environments.

Additionally, the program offers preparation for AWS Academy Cloud Foundations, Azure Fundamentals, and AZ-104 certification exams, ensuring participants are not just learning the theory but are also ready for certification that enhances employability.

Leadership comments

“DevOps serves as a distinct approach to enterprise software development, emphasizing the necessity of cooperation, automation, and communication between software developers and IT operations teams. IIIT-B, with its expertise in cloud development and DevOps, has developed this comprehensive programme to meet future demands, thereby enabling the nation to build skills and expertise in this very important technical area.," said Prof Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT-Bangalore.

Mayank Kumar, Co-founder & MD of upGrad, pointed out the surge in demand for DevOps and Cloud computing skills.

"In the last one year, we’ve seen nearly 1.4 lakh learners sign up for our free Tech & Data courses, and hence, this program with IIIT-B will strike the right chord with tech and even non-tech enthusiasts. Our partnership with the university dates back to 2016, and with several in-demand online courses in Data, Software, and AI/ML, we’ve been able to command a strong position within the skilling and learning ecosystem,” Kumar said.

“Today, because of the macroeconomic circumstances, professionals are scrutinising their investments/spends, seeking skills that ensure both immediate market value and long-term relevance. Hence, this program represents hands-on tools and domain fundamentals to enhance employability. It has been built carefully for freshers in tech and non-tech enthusiasts who want to embark on their Cloud and DevOps journey,” concluded Kumar while talking about the origin and idea behind the new launch.

Enhancing employability in a changing market

The program is not just about filling an immediate gap in the job market but also about providing skills that ensure long-term relevance and employability. With enrolments set to begin for its first cohort on June 30, 2024, this initiative represents a significant step towards equipping professionals with the necessary skills to thrive in the evolving cloud and DevOps landscape.
