The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has crossed the 200 million transaction mark, cementing its position as a transformative force in India's digital commerce landscape.
Since its launch in September 2022, ONDC has fundamentally reshaped how businesses and consumers interact in the e-commerce ecosystem.
Rapid acceleration in adoption
While it took 20 months (January 2023 to August 2024) to reach its first 100 million transactions, the platform added another 100 million transactions in just the last six months.
The surge in adoption highlights ONDC's transition from an ambitious initiative to a nationwide movement, driving large-scale adoption across food and beverage, grocery, retail, logistics, mobility, and financial services.
Leadership comments
"Crossing 200 million transactions is more than just a milestone—it marks a paradigm shift in how buyers and sellers perceive digital commerce today. This validates ONDC's belief that an open network can drive large-scale transformation by creating equal opportunities for businesses of all sizes, breaking monopolies, and fostering an innovation-driven ecosystem...There are many more use cases brewing within ONDC that will soon see the light of day," said T Koshy, MD and CEO of ONDC.
Launched on December 31, 2021, ONDC is a Section 8 company established under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
Unlike traditional ecommerce platforms, ONDC is not an application, platform, intermediary, or software but a set of specifications designed to foster open, unbundled, and interoperable Open Networks.
