Indian drone manufacturer ideaForge Technology Ltd. has announced a strategic investment of roughly Rs 15.96 crore in Vantage Robotics, a California-based startup specializing in unmanned and robotic aircraft manufacturing.
The infusion of $1.832 million was executed on February 19, 2025, through a Compulsorily Convertible Promissory Note, marking a minority investment that ideaForge believes will further its long-term strategic goals.
Aligning with long-term strategic goals
“While this is not a direct acquisition, ideaForge has made a minority investment that aligns with its long-term strategic goals,” the company said in a statement.
The shareholding percentage will be determined upon conversion of the note into equity at a future date. The transaction, which has been carried out in compliance with Reserve Bank of India regulations, remains subject to requisite government and regulatory approvals.
What does Vantage Robotics do?
Founded in 2013, Vantage Robotics has built a reputation for producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and UAV components for both commercial and defense applications. For ideaForge, headquartered in Mumbai, the investment represents an opportunity to extend its global footprint.
While the company is already well-established in India’s drone sector, the partnership with Vantage Robotics offers a chance to leverage additional research and development capabilities, particularly in high-end defense, surveillance, and enterprise markets beyond India.
Though financial specifics about Vantage Robotics’ revenue and earnings were not disclosed—owing to its private ownership—ideaForge said the partnership aligns with a vision to invest in frontier drone applications.
