India's JSW Steel appoints Robert Simon as CEO of JSW USA

JSW Steel has announced the appointment of Robert Simon as the Chief Executive Officer of its US operations. Simon brings a wealth of experience from the steel industry, having held several key positions in major companies.

He will lead the overall business comprising slab, coil, pipe, and plate production and sales at Baytown and Mingo Junction. Rob will report to the respective Boards of both JSW Steel subsidiary companies.

What led to this appointment?

The position became vacant in 2022 when Mark Bush resigned to explore new opportunities. Greg Manfredi, the Chief Operating Officer, temporarily filled the role. Simon's appointment marks the end of this interim period, introducing a permanent leader to steer JSW Steel USA forward.

Who is Robert Simon?

Rob began his professional career as a Production Manager and eventually as General Manager for Oregon Brass Works. He held several key positions at Evraz North America’s Rocky Mountain Steel Mills, eventually becoming the Vice President and general Manager and later the Executive Vice President for the company’s Tubular Division.

Rob’s career then expanded to Steel Dynamics, where he became Vice President of Structural Products. There, he led the organization through a recovery from the financial crisis, re-establishing a strong presence in the company's markets while also developing a significant presence in new markets. Rob later accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer for the newly formed Bayou Steel Group.

Simon's prior roles

Prior to joining JSW USA, he consulted with several companies including OmniTrax in Denver Colorado. Rob has also served on the Executive Committee and as Chairman of the Steel Manufacturers Association in the USA and as a Board Member of the American Institute of Steel Construction.

Simon's career is notable for its breadth and depth. He started as a Production Manager at Oregon Brass Works and rose through the ranks to hold executive positions at Evraz North America, Steel Dynamics, and Bayou Steel Group. His expertise in improving and managing businesses in the steel industry is expected to drive JSW USA to new heights.

Simon is also recognized for his leadership roles within industry associations, including the Steel Manufacturers Association and the American Institute of Steel Construction.
