Sridhar Vembu on nail cutter sold for Rs 25

Chennai-based SaaS giant Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), said that he bought a nail cutter for Rs 25, which he presumed was made in China.

"I am yet to find a Made in India brand, though this one below doesn't have any marking of where it was made but I presume China because the top floral pattern looks similar to other Chinese-made nail clippers I have," Vembu wrote.

"I normally pay Rs 60-70 but this time the price is Rs 25 (about US $0.3), marked down from MRP shown as Rs 60," he wrote.

"Can someone in the retail distribution chain explain? Is there a glut in China that is being cleared? Can anyone make money on this product at Rs 25?" Vembu questioned.

Vembu shared this post on the morning of July 11, and since then, it has garnered over 310,000 views. Many have also taken to the comments to share their reactions and opinions on his post.

"We are associated with manufacturing surgical instruments - With the right quantity may be possible . Will revert back," a user wrote.

"This gets sold to wholesalers at around 11-12₹ a piece. Cost from china might be around 7-8₹ only. I have thought of manufacturing made in India Nail cutters for long, but the economics just doesn’t make sense. Original made in korea Bell nail cutter costs around 40₹ in wholesale market," another shared.
