Ather CEO makes a witty comeback on Kamath's ‘sht marketing’ tease

A day after Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath said that Ather has sh*t marketing but great product, Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta responded with a witty comeback on X.

Using a popular meme featuring Pakistani cricket fan Sarim Akhtar, Mehta humorously suggested what the marketing team might be thinking now.

"Marketing team be like ‘isko discount hi de dena chahiye tha (we should've given him a discount)'," Mehta said, replying to Kamath's post on X.

The friendly jibe began when Nikhil Kamath humorously mentioned on X and Instagram that he bought an Ather electric scooter at the full market price without any discount.

"Every one of us has pluses and minuses, Ather has sh*t marketing but great product (sorry Tarun). PS: I bought this scooter at MRP, Tarun (Mehta) didn't even give me a discount," Kamath said.

In a post, Kamath also revealed how his passion and interest started towards electric vehicles. He said that supporting young Indian products and entrepreneurs was a key reason why he decided to put his money into Ather Energy.

"Patriotism is a different thing to different people, mine today seems to be to dream of young Indian products and entrepreneurs killing it inside and outside India," Kamath wrote.

"Will pick great products with terrible marketing every time, sales I hope can be solved for easier than product. The reason we made this investment is also this, every ancillary player in this space said Ather, the product is the best, but they don't know how to sell, conservative, measured, etc..."

Urging people to buy more from domestic brands, Kamath added, "Let us Indians buy more Indian brands, until one day non-Indians buy Indian brands, Every one of us has pluses and minuses, Ather has sh*t marketing but great product."

According to reports, Nikhil Kamath has invested over Rs 250 crore in Ather Energy.
