In a rather unusual move in a nascent sector, quick services startup Pronto, which has raised around $2 million from Bain Capital and is in the advanced stages of giving a seat on the cap table to General Catalyst, Glade Brook and Untitled VC by raising another $10-12 million, has silently begun preparing to flip its domicile to India, from Delaware, sources have informed IndianStartupNews (ISN).
The flipping back from the US to India comes in less than a year since Pronto was started, which is rather early for a company. Other firms like Meesho for instance, only flipped their base back a few months before they went public.
However, Pronto wants to buck the trend and redomicile in India early on so it can understand and operate better in India, its only market for the business. It is also making moves early as it wants to avoid shelling out extra bucks later on, like Meesho, Groww and others.
Pronto had set up business in the US makes sense because the founder, Anjali Sardana was earlier an investor and student in the US.
Pronto lets users book instant cooks, domestic help, cleaners etc in 10 minutes and competes with Lightspeed and Elevation Capital-funded Snabbit, started by former Zepto employee Aayush Agarwal.
To rival Snabbit, Pronto has raised $2 million from Bain Capital, her former employer, but is also closing a new $10-12 million round from General Catalyst, Glade Brook and Untitled VC, a separate set of sources informed ISN.
Pronto chose not to reply to ISN’s queries.
