Meesho’s Mohit Rajani quits as CPO; Prasanna Arunacalam to take over

(L-R) Mohit Rajani, CEO Vidit Aatrey, and Prasanna Arunachalam

Former Meta executive Mohit Rajani who joined e-commerce unicorn Meesho as its chief product officer (CPO) only in September 2024 has resigned from the company and will be heading out in the weeks to come, according to several sources who spoke to IndianStartupNews (ISN) on the condition of anonymity.

He is now the second CPO to quit in under two years.

Rajani was in fact a fairly new appointee, having completed less than a year, replacing Kirti Varun Avasarala, former Meesho CPO who quit to join Uber late last year.

Sources said Prasanna Arunachalam, who has been with Meesho for nearly five years, has been elevated to the role of Chief Product Officer at the company. In his previous role, he was leading monetisation and content commerce at Meesho. With prior experience in product leadership roles, Prasanna combines deep expertise in product management with a sharp understanding of India’s evolving digital commerce landscape. He holds an MBA from IIM Bangalore and is playing a key role in shaping Meesho’s vision to democratize internet commerce.

We covered Rajani’s appointment in 2024 here. His experience with AI and product would have been key for Meesho as it gears up to tap the public markets to raise as much as Rs 8,500 crore.

Meesho chose not to reply to ISN’s email.

Rajani has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi).

At the time of joining Meesho less than a year ago, Rajani said “I have long admired Meesho’s transformative impact on e-commerce in India. The company’s mission to democratize internet commerce resonates deeply with my passion for creating meaningful products."

Meesho co-founder and CEO Vidit Aatrey had also charted out plans for Rajani. “Mohit’s leadership will be instrumental in driving product innovation, enhancing customer experience, and building a world-class product organization as we continue to scale our platform.”

Aatrey also sent out a mail to some employees informing them about Rajani’s exit, as per a few sources who told ISN about this update.

Rajani is an AI enthusiast and has largely been in companies tackling related roles. He brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous roles at major global technology companies, including Meta, Instagram, and Google.

At Meta, Rajani played a crucial role in scaling the messenger's monetization initiative into a multi-billion-dollar business.

Before his time at Meta, he was part of the core team at Instagram that launched ads and business products, successfully expanding the platform to over one million advertisers.
